Bryan Habana, the 'darling' of Newlands?
It’s official, Bryan Habana has signed with WP, and will be departing from Pretoria, to the dismay of his many “true blue” fans country wide. This move comes after Habana flew into Cape Town last week to meet with Rassie Erasmus, to have a chat about how many “buffalo’s” WP where willing to offer him. After making what must be huge savings over the past few years by not making any substantial big money deals, WP were able to outbid the Blue Bulls to win the services of the Springbok flyer.
This latest big name move comes after the initial hype of fellow Springboks Jaque Fourie and Wynand Olivier being linked to deals with WP. Fourie is currently having problems being released from the GLRU, but is still adamant to join the Cape side, whilst Olivier opted to remain with the Blue Bulls.
I’ve been hearing whispers around Cape Town that more “big name players” can be expected to be linked to a possible move with WP. Apparently WP still have brothers, Bismark and Jannie Du Plessis on their shopping list for next season.
At the moment, these are just rumours, but last time I heard a rumor, there turned out to be quite a bit of substance in it. As with the last rumor, that panned out to be true, remember you heard it here at BlogspotRugby 1st.
My good mate and co-founder of BlogspotRugby, Adrian Myburgh did a quick mock-up of what Habana will look like in the Stormers strip come next year’s Super 14. Visit his site at www.adrianmyburgh.com.
What do you think of Habana’s move to the Stormers?

Gotta love that pic – at last, Bryan’s coming home.
Looking forward to seeing who else pops up at Province in the coming months. We seriously need to bring some silverware back to WP – after all, the Currie Cup belongs here as we have won more than any other team.
I can’t say I’m not dissapointed – being a bulls supporter but I wish Brian well with his move… Hope that Rassie can get the stormers into a cohesive team and rid them of the ‘glory boy’ status that has got them no where, particularly in the super 14 series. Let’s see what the next year brings…
Thats better much better look for Bryan Habana!!
Gona be an epic super 14 next year!!
Bring home the cups boys
@JBagley: Thanks mate! You won’t believe who the original pic was of..
With so much Province transfer talk at the moment I can’t wait to see who else dons the stripes come next season.
@Hans: It must be a bit disappointing from a Bull’s perspective. He is a great player with loads of skill and the type of quality we can do with on the wing.
@Theo: Totally agree. We can’t wait!
Thanks for the comments all!
@Adrian – I rate him big time… going to be a good season next year..
@Hans, I agree, he is one of the greatest to wear the Springbok strip. I just hope WP and the Stormers utilise him properly, and create space for him, not like the limited opportunities and messy ball they deliver to Chavanga.
@Hans and Dooley: Looks like we all in agreement then. Habana + Stormers = FTW!
Anyone want to take a guess which player Habana’s head was “imposed/photoshopped” onto?
It does feel good to truly say we are the best in the world! We are working on a great piece to commemorate bein Tri-Nations champions (or am I being too windgat here!?) Go to http://www.thepitch.co.za for more information.
The Pitch launched in July 2009 as a new marketing portal for an old business. The practice of collecting sporting memorabilia is as old as the sporting fraternity, but for some it is much more than just a once off occasion. We have been collecting sporting goods for the last 30 years and what started out as a passion has grown over the years into a small business with select customers and word of mouth marketing. At The Pitch our mission is simple. We love sport and we aim to put a larger number of sports fans and memorabilia collectors in touch with what we have built up over the years.
Own great moments!
Bryan made a lot of enemies now. If he wants to be a “kotskop”, so be it. He signed with the Bulls to get his hands on trophies…what will be achieving now???? Enjoy your stay in Apetown Bryan…just shows, you were never a true BLUE BULL. Don`t expect any support when you run out on Loftus ever again. We will also pull that WP/Stormer attitude on you and boooooo you. You won`t have the support behind you anymore…not even for South Africa. Think about this; How many star players went on to play in Apetown and how many are still stars?Willem de Waal…Joe van Niekerk…name them, they messed up their career with that move….Sorry mate…
@charl
talk about sour grapes man. why dont you cry me a river… players move around the country from province to province all the time! How many players start and actually end there career at the same club.
This is there career!
I can see from your dramatic emotional post that you are a huge Bulle fan and really sad to see Habana leave (and a huge fan of Luke Watson)!
I am sure after a while you will calm down and not be making ridiculous comments about not even supporting Habana even when he is playing for the Bokke.
Finally, I must have missed that time when Generaal De Waal was ever a star.
