I’m a tad pissed at the fact that Supersport are only broadcasting one Currie Cup game this weekend. The matchup between the FS Cheetahs and the Sharks will be broadcast, yet the current log leaders, the GWK Griquas don’t seem to get the nod as far as television broadcasting goes. This is the fixtures list for tonight’s games as on the Supersport website:

Only space for one game?
I realise that three of the games fall in the same time slot, but Supersport do have plenty of channels. Another reason why I don’t understand the fact that they aren’t broadcasting the games is that each of them are being played at one of the major stadiums around the country, so it isn’t like they are having to trek all their gear around to the middle of nowhere.
There are always cries from every corner of the country that we need to do more to develop the smaller unions and to get the players exposure, but how do we do that if the games aren’t televised? I know that it is early days, but the two teams at the top of the log are missing out on TV coverage. I would be pissed if I were playing in one of those teams.

Log leaders get no television time
Maybe Supersport should offer broadcasting rights, free of charge, to the SABC when they aren’t interested in covering the games. In doing so, atleast the fans, the people who keep the competition alive through their support, aren’t missing out on South Africa’s ‘bread and butter’ of rugby.
What do you think about the lack of games televise this weekend? Should Supersport give SABC the go ahead, or is there another solution? Leave your comments below.
